Vegan Cuban Style Sandwich Sliders

I ham very happy to bring you these tasty Cuban vegan sliders packed with layers of vegan ham, vegan cheese, and tangy pickles, all nestled within soft slider buns slathered in a buttery mustard sauce. Plus, they’re so easy to make!

This is liked an amped up ham and cheese sandwich and so much better. It’s as simple as layering the vegan ham slices, vegan cheese, onions and pickles then slathering on the butter sauce! Believe me, once you spread that vegan butter sauce all over the sliders, you will use it for every slider recipe you make!

What you’ll need:

  • Vegan ham slices: I used Tofurky brand but there are others out there so use your favorite. Thinly sliced marinated tofu or tempeh would work great as well!
  • Vegan cheese: I used shreds but slices would work as well. There’s not many vegan “Swiss” cheeses out there which is traditionally used so use your favorite. I used a Colby/cheddar blend from Violife.
  • Caramelized onions: I have a simple recipe for caramelized onions and I used purple/red onions as that’s all I had so that’s why they look a little darker. You can use yellow or sweet onions or leave them out if you prefer but they really bring the flavor to these sliders in my opinion!
  • Pickles: I used hamburger style chips but you could use kosher dill slices or even sweet pickles but I like the simplicity of these.
  • Slider rolls: I used Sara Lee Artesano rolls but use any vegan slider roll you prefer. They can be hard to find but there are more brands out there now.

The butter/mustard sauce is kind of the star of the show here and is what makes these sliders so tender and delicious. Don’t skip it! If you don’t like mustard, leave it out but it’s the classic condiment for Cuban sandwiches.

Baking these in a baking dish or pan is essential as you need to cover them for part of the cooking time and it keeps all the delicious vegan butter sauce in place. I used a ceramic dish but a metal pan with higher sides like an oblong brownie pan would work as well.

I hope you enjoy these tasty vegan sliders! They’re an easy weeknight meal option and great for get togethers when you’re keeping it casual. Don’t forget to rate and review if you try them!

An amazing easy delicious slider with a vegan butter and mustard sauce that’s a must try!

Ingredients

  • 1 package vegan ham slices

  • 1 pack 12 vegan slider rolls

  • shredded vegan cheese or slices

  • hamburger dill pickles

  • caramelized onions
  • 1 large yellow, white or red (purple) onion, sliced thinly

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil

  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

  • butter mustard sauce
  • 1/4 cup vegan butter, melted

  • 2 tablespoons minced onion

  • 2 tablespoons prepared mustard (yellow, brown or Dijon)

  • 1 tablespoon minced parsley (fresh or dried)

Directions

  • Make the caramelized onions (if using). Heat olive oil in a saucepan or frypan on medium heat and add the sliced onions and salt. Cook stirring occasionally on medium/low heat partially covered until melted and caramelized which could take up to 20 minutes. Set aside.
  • Butter a 13×9 baking dish (or one that fits the shape of your rolls snugly) and preheat your oven to 350°.
  • Make the butter and mustard sauce: grate your onions on the small homes side of a box grater or mince finely in a small food processor or by hand and add to the rest of the ingredients and mix together well with a small whisk.
  • Most slider rolls come in the package not sliced so carefully with a serrated knife, cut the rolls evenly in half. Place the bottom half in the buttered dish and layer with ham, caramelized onions (if using), cheese then pickle slices and end with the roll tops.
  • Brush the vegan butter and mustard sauce all over the top with a small pastry brush or spoon and make sure to coat the sides as well. Cover the entire dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes then uncover and bake for five additional minutes to brown the rolls a bit. All ovens vary so it could take more or less time depending on using convection heat and your oven brand. If the cheese doesn’t look melted enough bake for a few more minutes. Cut the sliders out all the way through then serve immediately.
