About this recipe:
These Vegan Cuban Style Sandwich Sliders are an homage to the flavors of a traditional Cuban sandwich, not an authentic recreation. Classic Cuban sandwiches typically include roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard pressed on Cuban bread and regional versions can vary widely. My plant-based version reimagines those familiar flavors using vegan ingredients and slider rolls to create an easy, shareable recipe inspired by the original.

Why you’ll love these:
- Simple ingredients you can customize to your own taste.
- Easy to make with minimal prep and bake time.
- A flavor-packed plant-based twist on a Cuban sandwich favorite.
Whether you’re a longtime vegan or trying plant-based food for the first time, this slider recipe delivers bold Cuban flavors with an easy assembly that everyone will love!

What you’ll need:
- Vegan ham slices: I used Tofurky brand but there are others out there so use your favorite. Thinly sliced marinated tofu or tempeh would work great as well!
- Vegan cheese: I used shreds but slices would work as well. There’s not many vegan “Swiss” cheeses out there which is traditionally used so use your favorite. I used a Colby/cheddar blend from Violife.
- Caramelized onions: I have a simple recipe for caramelized onions and I used purple/red onions as that’s all I had so that’s why they look a little darker. You can use yellow or sweet onions or leave them out if you prefer but they really bring the flavor to these sliders in my opinion!
- Pickles: I used hamburger style chips but you could use kosher dill slices or even sweet pickles but I like the simplicity of these.
- Slider rolls: I used Sara Lee Artesano rolls but use any vegan slider roll you prefer. They can be hard to find but there are more brands out there now.

The butter/mustard sauce is kind of the star of the show here and is what makes these sliders so tender and delicious. Don’t skip it! If you don’t like mustard, leave it out but it’s the classic condiment for Cuban sandwiches.

Baking these in a baking dish or pan is essential as you need to cover them for part of the cooking time and it keeps all the delicious vegan butter sauce in place. I used a ceramic dish but a metal pan with higher sides like an oblong brownie pan would work as well.

These Vegan Cuban Style Sandwich Sliders are my take and a crowd-pleasing plant-based twist on a classic favorite. With rich flavors and an easy bake, they’re perfect for anyone craving savory vegan comfort food. Be sure to rate and review if you try them!

These were sooo yummy! The only change I made was I wound up dipping them in additional mustard because I didn’t find them saucy enough. When I make them again I’ll put mustard on the sandwich as well as on top. I might also leave out the pickles because I didn’t feel like they added much. But overall a great recipe!
Yes, load up on the mustard if you’re a fan! I like things saucy too! Thanks so much for your thoughtful review.

Am I missing an additional onion? Recipe instructions say to grate an onion yet the only onion listed is for the caramelized onions.
Never mind, I can’t read this early on the morning, haha. Please disregard
Haha, no problem! Happens to me a lot too lol.
