Spooky Vegan Rice Creepie Treats

Boo! Here’s an easy recipe for Halloween for vegan rice “creepie” or crispy treats! Did you know most cereals (and regular Rice Krispies) contain vitamin D3 which is derived from lanolin that comes from sheep? That’s really scary and not vegan but for some reason the Halloween version of the “shocking orange” Rice Krispies don’t contain it but they do have an artificial color which some vegans also avoid. It’s not that the company itself tests on animals but researchers often do so avoid if concerned. You could also use natural vegan food coloring to make them orange!

This recipe is my popular soft rice crispy treats recipe using a secret ingredient which is vegan condensed oat or coconut milk! It keeps them soft for days! I then covered them with my easy two ingredient chocolate ganache and then decorated them with ghosts made from a simple vegan buttercream frosting.

These are really easy to make and fun to do with the kids! I used large vegan marshmallows but minis would melt faster for sure. I also used clear vanilla but any will do.

Of course you don’t have to cover these in chocolate ganache but the combo is super tasty! You could just use natural sprinkles on top or just make them plain. How creepy you get is up to you!

A super easy and fun “Frankenrecipe” treat using two of my popular recipes!

  • 1 batchw vegan Rice Krispie treats (sub orange Rice Krispies or add vegan orange food coloring to desired orange color)

  • 1 batch easy vegan chocolate ganache

  • vegan vanilla frosting (for ghosts – you can use homemade or canned frosting!)

  • melted chocolate for eyes and mouths of ghosts

Directions

  • Make my vegan Rice Krispie treats and press into an 8×8 square baking pan sprayed with plain vegetable spray. Cool completely.
  • Make my ganache and pour over the top. Refrigerate until set (a few hours or preferably overnight).
  • Using a pastry bag and a round piping tip, make ghosts then using melted chocolate with a small round tip to make eyes and mouths.
  • Cut into squares and enjoy!

Notes

  • If you can’t find the shocking orange Rice Krispies, use a brand that doesn’t contain vitamin D3. Some store brands do not like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods 365 brand.
  • I used Nature’s Charm vegan condensed oat milk but condensed coconut milk will work as well.
  • For the ganache, use a vegan heavy cream. Silk, Country Crock Plantcream, Califia and Violife brands all make one now.
