Viral TikTok Cinnamon Rolls with Vegan Cream

We’re not ones to jump on viral trends so much here at BBV headquarters, but when we saw this simple hack to make canned cinnamon rolls all taste soft and gooey, we knew we had to try it. This viral tiktok cinnamon roll hack uses heavy cream (we used vegan cream) and store bought cinnamon rolls to create a light and moist cinnamon roll. I can’t really call this a recipe, but this “hack” might not even have been possible just a few years ago (ok, maybe with full fat coconut milk) but there are now a few vegan heavy cream substitutes on the market so let’s roll!

All you need is some vegan heavy cream and a can (or two) of vegan friendly cinnamon rolls. I used Silk brand heavy cream and Trader Joe’s cinnamon rolls but Country Crock now makes a plant cream and Flora also makes a vegan heavy cream. You could use full fat coconut milk but just know it will lend a coconut flavor to the rolls which I actually would probably enjoy but some may not.

I made this using a can of five jumbo cinnamon rolls but it could be doubled. Just make sure to leave some space around the rolls when placing them in the baking dish as they will expand while baking. Most recipes I checked called for a bit too much cream for my liking so I adjusted it to 1/3 cup for these five jumbo rolls. You just want to cover the tops and have a little pool of cream at the bottom. You don’t want them swimming in an inch of cream as it won’t all absorb when baked.

After baking, these need to cool for a bit before being iced and any residual cream should get sucked up into the rolls so if you see some pooled after taking them out of the oven, don’t worry.

After they’ve cooled for about 10 minutes, ice them with the provided canned icing. Some videos I’ve seen made extra icing or added more brown sugar and cinnamon but it’s not necessary in my opinion.

If you’re looking for vegan friendly cinnamon rolls I know Annie’s, Trader Joe’s (I’m pretty sure these are Annie’s as well) and Immaculate Baking company don’t contain eggs or milk. Some store private label brands may also be vegan so check the ingredients.

So how do these taste? They were delicious. Each roll was super soft around the outside and on top which can often get crusty when baked. I don’t think I’ll make cinnamon rolls the same way ever again after this! I’m working on my own from scratch super soft recipe and will probably incorporate this step of adding cream into it for sure. Really good in my opinion but try for yourself!

An easy way to make cinnamon rolls super soft!

Ingredients

  • 1 can refrigerated jumbo cinnamon rolls (see notes)

  • 1/3 cup vegan heavy cream

Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°. Butter or spray a baking dish. Use one that will leave some space for your rolls but not too big that they won’t touch the sides while baking.
  • Open the package of cinnamon rolls and set the icing packet aside. Place the rolls into the pan leaving some room between them. Pour the heavy vegan cream over the tops and let it drip down the sides.
  • Bake for 20-22 minutes or according to the recommendation on the package instructions. If using smaller rolls, they’ll bake faster.
  • Let cool for about 10 minutes then frost and enjoy!

Notes

  • Some cinnamon roll packs contain 5 jumbo rolls and some contain 8 smaller rolls. Just make sure to read the package baking instructions for baking times.
  • If you can’t find vegan heavy cream, you could use full fat coconut milk but just know it will lend a coconut flavor to the rolls.

  1. Game changer! I used coconut milk, Annie’s cinnamon rolls, and a square baking dish. I really love how they turned out, so I will have to make them this way every time!
