JUST is back with another new product and some are flipping out over the news. The brand known for their plant-based eggs and new vegan chicken has launched “Power Jacks”, a ready-to-pour vegan pancake mix available in Original, Cinnamon Roll, and Chocolate Chip flavors.
These are refrigerated mixes, so the batter is already made and you just pour it straight from the bottle onto a pan or griddle and cook. No measuring, no extra ingredients needed. Power Jacks have already been spotted at Target and Hannaford, with more retailers likely to follow. Prices hover around $6.99, though that may vary since retailers often set pricing, not brands.
Some already have thoughts.
Some shoppers have noticed that the protein count on the packaging can be a little misleading, since it lists the total for the full container rather than per serving which breaks down to around 5 grams per serving. Others mentioned the calorie count feels a bit high compared to traditional pancake mixes.
Some commenters on my Instagram post said they wish these were gluten-free, since there are already several vegan pancake products on shelves. But what makes these a bit different is that everything’s ready to go to just pour, cook, and eat.
Still, for anyone who wants fresh, homemade-style pancakes without mixing bowls or cleanup, this might be a convenient vegan breakfast option that’s hard to find.
Does this release matter?
In a time when many shoppers feel like vegan options are shrinking with some brands discontinuing or scaling back plant-based items, I personally feel it’s positive to see JUST expanding. Between their new vegan chicken earlier this year and now Power Jacks, the company is showing a commitment to growing the plant-based category, not retreating from it.
Whether or not these pancakes become your breakfast staple or not, it seems like a win for vegan convenience foods and for anyone hoping to see more plant-based choices in major retailers.
