The Easiest Vegan Cheese Ball

Who doesn’t love a cheese ball? It’s fun, it’s festive and it feeds a crowd! I’ve made many different kinds over the years and most always started with cashews. The soaking involved and the urge to make one on the spur of the moment were reasons I didn’t make them often enough so I set out to make one that could be assembled and served in under a half hour. Bam! Take that cashews!

If you have some vegan cream cheese and your favorite vegan cheese you would enjoy eating cold, then you’re set! Some spices, miso paste and nutritional yeast are all you need and then you can roll it in some toasted nuts and you’re ready to go!

This is really a base recipe so you can totally customize it for whatever you’re in the mood for that day!

  • Add some roasted peppers for a pimento cheese vibe.
  • Add some Italian herbs and sun dried tomatoes for a pizza vibe.
  • Want a Mexican flavor? Add some taco seasoning and roasted chipotle peppers.

This is great for parties, potlucks, picnics and more as it travels really well and everyone will be so impressed it’s vegan! I hope you enjoy it too so please rate and review!

A simple yet delicious vegan cheese ball you can serve in under a half hour!

Ingredients

  • 1 7-8 oz tub of vegan cream cheese (use a dense style)

  • 1 cup vegan cheese, shredded (use your favorite hard style you would enjoy cold)

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (plus more for sprinkling)

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric (for color, optional)

  • 1 small clove garlic pressed, grated or minced

  • 1 tablespoon white miso paste

  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast flakes

  • 1/2 cup nuts, toasted and chopped fine (see notes)

Directions

  • Toast the nuts in a dry pan or in the oven until just starting to brown (don’t burn them!) and cool and chop finely.
  • Add all the other ingredients to the bowl of a mini or regular food processor and mix scraping down once or twice until completely blended.
  • Take a large piece of plastic wrap or wax paper and add the cheese mixture then fold up all corners and twist the top and form into a ball. Place in the freezer for 15 minutes to chill quickly.
  • Take the ball out of the freezer then roll in the nuts and chill again if desired or serve immediately with crackers or your favorite veggies.

Notes

  • Use a dense cream cheese like Tofutti, Violife, Trader Joe’s or Nurishh like I used.
  • I used Daiya cheddar shreds but use a shredded cheese you wild enjoy eating cold.
  • I used walnuts to coat the ball but you can use almonds, pistachios or any nut you desire. If you’re nut free, consider roasted and chopped sunflower seeds.
