Vegan Mini Tater Tot Sliders

It’s national tater tot day today! Why not use this tasty tot as the bun for mini vegan sliders? Why not indeed! Let’s go!

This is more of an assembly and less of a proper recipe but you do need the crispy crown style of tots. Ore-Ida makes them and I’ve seen store brands of this flatter and rounder variety as well. You also need your favorite meaty vegan burger or ground beef, your favorite vegan cheese then some pickles! Add your choice of dipping sauce and you’re good to go.

I cooked everything in the oven for this. I shaped small round discs of vegan ground meat on a baking sheet slightly larger than the tots (they’ll shrink a bit when cooked) then twice as many tots on another sheet then cooked them at the same time. I placed small squares of vegan cheese on top of each mini patty a few minutes before them being fully cooked. When they were done I just assembled them with a pickle then skewered them with a fancy pick but a regular toothpick will work as well.

For dipping I used traditional ketchup and mustard then a vegan ranch as well. You could also make a special sauce concoction of vegan mayo, ketchup and mustard. Barbecue sauce would be great as well. These would be great as game day snacks or finger foods for a party. I hope these are a hit with your friends and family!

These are mini vegan sliders using tater tots as the buns! Score!

Ingredients

  • 2 meaty vegan burgers or half a brick of vegan ground beef, defrosted

  • crispy crown style tater tots (double the amount of patties)

  • 4 slices vegan cheese cut into squares (quarters)

  • hamburger dill pickles

Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°. Shape small round patties from the defrosted burger meat. I used a small ice cream scoop so that they were all the same size. Make them flat and slightly larger than the circumference of the tots.
  • Place the mini burger patties on a parchment lined baking sheet. On a separate lined sheet add double the amount of tots than the amount of patties as you’ll need double to be the top and bottom “buns”.
  • Bake the tots and burgers for 10-12 minutes. Remove the burgers and add the quarters of cheese on top of each mini burger. Place back into the oven for 2-3 additional minutes.
  • Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on a crispy crown. Top with a pickle then the other tot. Secure with a toothpick. Serve with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

  • Use a fatty burger like Beyond Meat, Impossible or something similar.
  • Use your favorite vegan cheese. I used hot pepper jack but cheddar would be ideal.

  1. How clever! Store out of tater tots so got hash brown patties (cut in 1/2)which work just fine. Made them for Bob for Valentines Day, it was perfect surprise and he loved them!

Made these on Super Bowl Sunday and again for when my teenager had friends over. Huge hit and my son is the only vegan in his friend group. This is perfect for parties and teen gatherings. Easy to make and fun to eat!
