Vegan Mini Tater Tot Sliders (Plus a Festive Holiday Version!)

If you love fun party food, these Vegan Mini Tater Tot Sliders are about to become your new favorite bite-sized appetizer. We’re turning crispy tater tot crowns into adorable slider “buns” and stacking them with melty vegan cheese, juicy plant-based burger, crunchy pickles, and your favorite dipping sauces. They’re quick to assemble, wildly crowd-pleasing, and perfect for game day, parties, or holiday hosting.

And because I couldn’t resist, I’m also adding a holiday version, a festive, skewer-style tot bite topped with vegan burger, pickle, a bright red grape tomato, and a sprig of rosemary that can be dipped in my vegan “special sauce”. They look like tiny edible ornaments and taste incredible.

What you’ll need:

  • Tater Tot Crowns (the flatter, round crispy crowns. Ore-Ida makes them and Walmart’s Great Value store brand as well.
  • Vegan burger or vegan ground “beef”
  • Vegan cheese slices (cut into small squares)
  • Pickle chips
  • Toothpicks or cocktail picks
  • Your favorite sauces: ketchup, mustard, vegan ranch, BBQ sauce
  • My vegan special sauce (recipe below!)

Holiday Version:

For a fun and seasonal twist, build these cheerful holiday bites:

You’ll Need:

  • One tater tot crown
  • A piece of a cooked vegan burger
  • One pickle chip
  • One red grape tomato
  • A small sprig of rosemary
  • A drizzle or dip of my vegan special sauce

Assembly:

Skewer the tot first, then the mini burger piece, pickle chip, tomato, and finally the rosemary sprig. Dip the rosemary tip lightly into the special sauce for a decorative “frosted” look. These look gorgeous on a platter and taste even better.

Ingredients

  • 2 meaty vegan burgers or half a brick of vegan ground beef, defrosted

  • crispy crown style tater tots (double the amount of patties)

  • 4 slices vegan cheese cut into squares (quarters)

  • hamburger dill pickles

  • Special Sauce
  • 1⁄2 cup  vegan mayo (use your favorite but I prefer Follow Your Heart brand original veganaise)

  • 3 tablespoons vegan French dressing (you could substitute ketchup)

  • 4 teaspoons sweet pickle relish

  • 1 tablespoon finely minced or grated white or red onion

  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon vegan cane sugar

  • 1⁄4 teaspoon salt

Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°. Shape small round patties from the defrosted burger meat. I used a small ice cream scoop so that they were all the same size. Make them flat and slightly larger than the circumference of the tots.
  • Place the mini burger patties on a parchment lined baking sheet. On a separate lined sheet add double the amount of tots than the amount of patties as you’ll need double to be the top and bottom “buns”.
  • Bake the tots and burgers for 10-12 minutes. Remove the burgers and add the quarters of cheese on top of each mini burger. Place back into the oven for 2-3 additional minutes.
  • Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on a crispy crown. Top with a pickle then the other tot. Secure with a toothpick. Serve with your favorite dipping sauces.
  • Special Sauce
  • Add all ingredients to a small bowl and combine well or you could use a small mini prep food processor to mix them all together. Serve immediately or store in the fridge until ready to use.

Notes

  • Use a fatty burger like Beyond Meat, Impossible or something similar.
  • Use your favorite vegan cheese. I used hot pepper jack but cheddar would be ideal.
  • Ore Ida makes crispy crowns tater tots and so does Walmart’s Great Value brand.

  1. How clever! Store out of tater tots so got hash brown patties (cut in 1/2)which work just fine. Made them for Bob for Valentines Day, it was perfect surprise and he loved them!

Made these on Super Bowl Sunday and again for when my teenager had friends over. Huge hit and my son is the only vegan in his friend group. This is perfect for parties and teen gatherings. Easy to make and fun to eat!
