Trader Joe’s Discontinues Its Beloved Beef-Less Ground — Stock Up Now

If Trader Joe’s Beef-Less Ground is a staple in your kitchen, you’ll want to act fast. According to store sources, this longtime vegan favorite is set to be discontinued, with ordering stopping in mid-October 2025. Once stores sell through their current inventory, it’s gone for good.

This versatile soy-based ground beef alternative has been a go-to for tacos, pasta sauces, chilis, and more. Many shoppers discovered it years ago as one of Trader Joe’s earliest plant-based meat options, and it quickly became a freezer must-have.

Unfortunately, it’s not the only vegan classic we’ve lost. Trader Joe’s Meatless Meatballs quietly disappeared from shelves this year as well after making a comeback after being reformulated. Reviews weren’t great on those though with many commenting they preferred the older recipe.

Were these made by Yves?

Some have theorized these might have been made by Yves brand for Trader Joe’s and since that brand has closed down operations, it could be they could no longer source these from them. I’ve heard from sources on the inside that they were not made by Yves but the timing is suspicious and since they don’t disclose who makes their products, perhaps we’ll never know. They might actively be looking for a replacement though but only time will tell. Fingers crossed!

Why Trader Joe’s discontinues so many products.

Trader Joe’s rarely gives detailed reasons, but the explanation is usually the same: low sales or limited demand. Shelf space is tight, and if an item doesn’t “earn its spot,” it gets rotated out.

At the same time, the overall climate for plant-based meats isn’t as strong as it was just a few years ago. Big brands like Beyond and Impossible dominate much of the market, and some store-brand products have struggled to keep up with taste, pricing, or consumer demand.

What you can do:

  • Stock up now: Grab a few extra packs of Beef-Less Ground before your local store runs out.
  • Freeze it: The product holds up well in the freezer, so you can extend its shelf life.
  • Voice your feedback: Trader Joe’s does read shopper comments — you can submit a request on their Discontinued Products page.
  • Explore alternatives: While not the same, other brands like Beyond, Impossible, or Gardein have ground options that can step in.

Losing Trader Joe’s Beef-Less Ground stings, especially since it’s one of the few affordable vegan proteins that worked across so many recipes. While the Meatless Meatballs are already gone, this upcoming discontinuation marks another loss for plant-based eaters shopping at Trader Joe’s.

The hope? That with enough demand, Trader Joe’s will either bring it back or replace it with something even better. For now, make space in your freezer and grab it while you can.

  1. I am sooo disappointed Trader Joe’s is discontinuing this product. It’s one of the best vegetarian meats out there and I use it for so many recipes, please bring it back!

  2. Ugh. Forcing us to go to Whole Foods?!?! 🙁

  3. It appears to be a vendor issue. Maybe vendor is closing up. Need to find out! Who makes it? Can another vendor provide? Just asking!

    • It’s been all but confirmed it was made by Yves brand in Canada which has gone out of business I’m afraid. They may be looking for a replacement but it could take a while.
