Trader Joe’s Vegan Mac Hack

Have you tried the Trader Joe’s vegan mac and cheese? We’re you a bit underwhelmed? Did you find the nutmeg flavor a tad too strong? Well me too. And I set out to fix it. Why you ask? Well, most of the work is done and with a quick addition of a few ingredients you probably have lying around the kitchen you can take it from a 7 to a 10.

This really isn’t a recipe per se. it’s just a few suggestions to make it taste just a little bit better. These couple of ingredients seem to mask the coconut and nutmeg flavor some find off putting. Feel free to add any other additions you’d like! Here’s what I suggest:

  • A tablespoon of yellow mustard.
  • 2-3 tablespoons nutritional yeast flakes.
  • Generous sprinkle of garlic powder.
  • 1/4 cup vegan cheddar cheese plus more to top if you like a crunchy top.

I made a short YouTube video tutorial (please subscribe!) on how to mix it all up. I prefer to bake it so I would set the oven to 375° and bake for about 15-20 minutes. Enjoy!
