Are Takis Pix Fuego the Vegan Flamin’ Hot Cheetos?

If you have ever stood in the snack aisle wishing Flamin’ Hot Cheetos were vegan, this news is for you!

Takis just launched Pix Fuego, a brand-new crunchy corn puff that is showing up at Walmart stores right now. They might feel immediately familiar to anyone who grew up reaching into a red bag of Cheetos. These are elongated, stick-shaped corn puffs with a light, airy crunch and the same basic format as Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, but with Takis Fuego seasoning doing all the work instead of dairy-loaded cheese dust.

What Makes Pix Different from Regular Takis?

Original Takis Fuego are rolled tortilla chips that are dense, crunchy, and aggressively seasoned with hot chili pepper and lime. Takis Pix takes that same beloved Fuego flavor but puts it on a completely different base. Where Flamin’ Hot Cheetos build heat slowly and deliver a purer spiciness that lingers, Takis Fuego has always been known for hitting fast with tangy, upfront heat. Pix lands in an interesting middle ground. You get the puff format of a Cheeto with the flavor personality of Takis Fuego. If that sounds like the best of both worlds to you, you might want to grab a bag (or two).

But are they vegan?

For most, this one clears the bar. The ingredient list shows corn meal, vegetable oil, and a seasoning blend that includes soy vegetable protein, yeast extract, chili extract, and paprika oleoresin for color. No dairy. No eggs. One of the biggest callouts right on the front of the bag is “No Artificial Colors Added,” which is actually meaningful news for the vegan community since the original Takis Fuego formula used synthetic dyes that are often tested on animals. Takis has been phasing artificial colors out of its portfolio, and Pix has launched without them from the start.

Where to Find Them

Takis Pix Fuego is available now at Walmart in an 8.5 oz bag. The rollout started at Kroger in late February and hit Walmart shelves in early March. If your store does not have them yet, keep checking as these are moving fast!
