Celebrate National Cookie Day With the Best Bakery-Quality Vegan Cookies

National Cookie Day is here, and while the world is full of packaged vegan cookies, today we’re taking it up a notch. This guide focuses on elevated, bakery-style vegan cookies. The kind that taste fresh and are indulgent enough to rival any home baked treat.

From iconic nationwide bakeries offering plant-based options to grocery store bakery sections stepping up their vegan game, here are the best places to score a truly bakery-quality vegan cookie.

Insomnia Cookies: Vegan, Warm, and Delivered Late-Night

If you want that gooey, right-out-of-the-oven experience, Insomnia Cookies continues to be one of the most accessible late-night vegan cookie options.

Their rotating vegan flavors typically include:

  • Vegan Chocolate Chunk
  • Vegan Double Chocolate Chunk
  • Vegan Birthday Cake

They’re thick, soft, and deliver that classic Insomnia chew. They sometimes even offer seasonal vegan varieties occasionally during the year.

Levain Bakery Gluten-Free Vegan Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie

Levain’s claim to fame are their massive, gooey, iconic cookies and yes, they offer a gluten-free vegan chocolate chip walnut cookie.

It’s rich and decadent with crispy edges and a soft center. I found the texture to be a little sandy but they’re huge and the flavor was good.

Sprouts Fresh Vegan Bakery Cookie Options

Sprouts’ bakery section has quietly become one of the best grocery store places to find plant-based baked goods. Their vegan cookie selection varies by location but commonly includes:

  • Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • Vegan Sea Salt Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • Vegan Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
  • Seasonal varieties like Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

These taste genuinely fresh-baked, with soft centers and the perfect amount of chew.

Whole Foods Bakery-Style Vegan Jelly-Filled Sandwich Cookies

Whole Foods Market used to carry chocolate chip cookies and other varieties but after switching to packaged vegan bakery offerings (read more about that switch here), they did offer chocolate chip cookies but pulled them earlier this year with no word yet of replacing them. They do still offer in their cookies by the pound cases vegan jelly filled sandwich style cookies. Strawberry seems to be a year-round offering with seasonal varieties showing up throughout the year like mulled berry and cranberry citrus around the holidays and mango, peach ginger and others.

Publix Bakery Vegan Cookies

Publix bakeries have been expanding their vegan bakery offerings, and depending on your region, you may find:

  • Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • Vegan Peanut Butter Cookies
  • Vegan Oatmeal Raisin
  • Vegan Ranger Cookies
  • Salted Caramel (new and might be for a limited time)
  • Coconut Key Lime (new and might be for a limited time)

Soft, chewy, and baked fresh, Publix is one of the Southeast’s most reliable grocery stores for vegan bakery cookies.

Cinnaholic has more than just cinnamon rolls!

Cinnaholic bakeries offer delicious large cookies available in flavors like Chocolate Chip, Cinnadoodle, and seasonal offerings like peppermint chocolate sold alongside their signature cinnamon rolls and edible cookie dough (yes, you can buy it in tubs!). They sometimes release limited-time cookie dough kits or special cookie cakes. Since everything on their menu is fully vegan and they add new treats throughout the year, Cinnaholic is a great place to find fun, bakery-quality vegan cookie options beyond the basics. Their stores aren’t everywhere as they’re franchised but you might find one on vacation if you don’t have one locally near you.

Whether it’s a massive soft-baked Levain bakery cookie, a warm cookie delivery from Insomnia, or a jelly-filled vegan cookie from Whole Foods, there are more bakery-style vegan treats than ever to celebrate National Cookie Day deliciously.

Treat yourself, you deserve it!
