Dunkin’ Removes Non-Dairy Milk Upcharge: A Big Win for Plant-Based Drinkers

In a move that’s sure to excite coffee lovers, Dunkin’ has announced it will no longer charge an additional fee for plant-based milk options such as oat, almond, and coconut milk starting March 5, 2025. This change marks a significant shift in Dunkin’s pricing structure and comes as more customers are seeking dairy-free alternatives due to dietary preferences, lactose intolerance, or a commitment to sustainability.

Previously, customers had to pay an extra charge for non-dairy milk, but with this new policy, Dunkin’ aims to make plant-based options more accessible and inclusive. This decision follows a growing trend in the food and beverage industry where many companies are reevaluating their stance on plant-based options to align with consumer demand and environmental concerns.

The move is seen as a response to the increasing popularity of non-dairy milk across coffee shops and restaurants. As more people choose alternatives like oat milk for their lattes and cappuccinos, Dunkin’ is acknowledging the shift and seems to be adapting to the times.

Non-dairy milk has become a staple for many including vegans, and with this change, Dunkin’ is hoping to attract more customers, especially those who have previously hesitated to visit due to the added cost. This shift also puts Dunkin’ in line with other major coffee chains that have already made similar moves, such as Starbucks, Dutch Bros, Tim Hortons and Scooter’s who have all stopped charging customers extra for non-dairy milks in the last few months.

This decision also comes after a class action lawsuit filed on Dec. 26, 2023, in the U.S. District Court in Northern California sought $5 million in damages from Dunkin‘ on behalf of several of the chain’s customers who requested non-dairy substitutions.

Seems this may have forced their hand but there’s no use crying over spilled non-dairy milk right?
